Helmets of Hope provides essential household supplies—cleaners, rags, brooms, mops, paper- and laundry products, et al—at no charge to veterans who have faced homelessness or other forms of housing crisis. This work is done in partnership with local and area agencies in both Illinois and Iowa, at no cost to those partner agencies.
Helmets of Hope started in 2015, as a ministry of First Christian Church of East Moline, making its first supply deliveries in December 2015. In the two previous years, the church had collected personal hygiene products for the homeless veteran community in the Quad Cities, but then learned from the VA that essential household supplies were a more pressing need.
First Christian Church of East Moline (recently also known as "New Beginnings Christian Church") will end its ministry at the end of 2024. In response to that upcoming change, we took the actions necessary to establish Helmets of Hope as the standalone 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in Illinois that it is today, receiving official 501(c)(3) status as of July 22, 2024.
Since 2015 we've partnered with various agencies and organizations. Currently we serve veterans in Illinois and Iowa in partnership with the VA, Humility Shelter and Homes, and the Elks Lodge of Davenport. We welcome inquiries from other veterans-serving groups and organizations about possible future partnerships.
As of October 2024, we have provided nearly 36,000 items to more than 1,000 veterans in the two state area. We're excited about the future and welcome your support as we serve those who have served us.

Helmets of Hope is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Illinois, but serving veterans in both Illinois and Iowa. You can offer us your tax-deductible donation in either of two ways:
#1
** Mail your gift in check form to . . .
FCCEM
3807 16th St
Moline, IL 61265
[NOTE: Until our application to solicit donations in Illinois is approved by the attorney general's office, we must ask you to donate to the church that launched us in 2015. So please make your check out to FCCEM, then use the memo line to specify Helmets of Hope as the target of your gift.100% of your donation will be directed to, and the letter of thanks for your donation will come from, Helmets of Hope.]
#2
** Click the green "DONATE TO HELMETS OF HOPE" button in the next section below, to be taken to Tithely, our 100% safe and secure online giving service. Again, 100% of your donation will be directed to Helmets of Hope.
[NOTE: For the same reason as above, for the time being we must ask you to donate to the church that launched us, so the button below will take you to our church's Tithely page, where you will have a choice of where your donation goes. Some simple instructions:
1. On the form to which clicking the green button sends you, enter the amount of your donation at the top, then click in the "Fund" window and choose "Helmets of Hope Ministry to Veterans."
2. Enter the rest of the form's required data, including a response to the "Cover the fees" line near the bottom. For each donation they process for us, Tithely charges a small fee that depends on the amount of the donation. So unless a donor covers those fees, we receive a bit less than the donor may have intended. Not a big deal! But if you click "Yes" in the "Cover the Fees" box, Tithely will add enough to your amount due so that what we receive after the fee is deducted is the full amount you want to donate. But please know that you are under NO obligation to cover the fees! [FYI, SOME EXAMPLES: The fee on a $25 credit card donation is $1.03. The fee on a $50 credit card donation is $1.75. The fee on a $100 credit card donation is $3.20. Fees paid by bank account withdrawals are a bit less.]

As soon as we receive the state's authorization to solicit donations, we will ask that all donor checks be made out to Helmets of Hope Inc. and the green button will take donors to the Helmets of Hope Tithely page. Thank you for your patience!
